HEIGHTS BEAT GREENVALE

Avondale Heights Football Club Seniors won the Round 2 clash with reining premier Greenvale by 23 points. In the first quarter, the Heights kicked to the river end. With the assistance of the breeze, the Heights played great football to go out to a six goal lead at quarter time, Greenvale hit back in the second quarter to reduce the deficit to only 5 points at half time. In the third quarter, the Heights were able to extend the lead to four goals and keep Greenvale goalless. At three quarter time and despite the Heights having a lead of less than five goals, the game was still in the balance. In the last quarter, the Heights had a match winning quarter and kicked the first four goals to extend the lead to a match winning nine goals. Greenvale fought back to kick the last four goals but by then, the Heights were home. Patrick Rose kicked 8 goals for a best on ground performance. Other best players included Luke Cartelli, Josh Free, Nick Dimartino, Leigh Owen and Taylor Jones. It was a fantastic exhibition of football by both teams on our club's Foundation Day and it was great to see so many of our Life Members, Foundation Members, Past Players and Supporters there. Our football club is excited about the future and embrace our fabulous past.
Next Round is the traditional ANZAC Day Clash between top of the table teams Avondale Heights and Aberfeldie. Players will play for the ANZAC Day Cup and the best afield player will be awarded the Johnson Parker Medal. Click Here
