HEIGHTS MAINTAIN UNBEATEN RECORD

The Avondale Heights Senior team maintained their unbeaten record for season 2014 with an emphatic win against Keilor in their Round 9 clash. The Heights led from start to finish to record a 62 point win. Keilor started the game well with several entries inside 50 but were unable to convert as the Heights backline led by Tanner and Tiller rebounded the forward entries and resisted the initial pressure. The Heights went forward on less occasions but were more efficient up forward and by the half way mark of the first quarter, the Heights started to get on top. At quarter time, the home team enjoyed a 15 point lead. In the second quarter, the Heights continued to take  ascendancy through Magin, Free, Cravino and Grabowski as well as the tireless ruckwork by Nathan Byrne. At half time the Heights had extended their lead to 32 points. The third quarter was an even battle but the Heights were able to increase their lead, led by Byrne, Grabowski and Magin as well as the forward setup of Galea and Rose who again contributed. In the final quarter, the Heights were relentless and continued their disciplined display. The pleasing outcome for coach Ghazi was that the team increased their lead each quarter, multiple players kicked goals and the backline were solid, setting up attack from defence. The Heights now turn for the second half of the season well aware of the challenges ahead and under no illusions of the closeness of the competition this year.
